An important safety message for our Grass Lake families -
On Monday, September 26, a Grass Lake High School student was approached in town by an individual who tried to pick the student up. We advise all of our families to closely monitor your children's travels in and around town and if anything is seen that is suspicious, to immediately call 911 with identifying information. Reinforce with your children that if approached by a stranger to move quickly in the opposite direction, regardless of any enticements that may be used. Know your neighbors. That allows them to be watching out for your children, and it allows you to be watching out for them. Children should draw attention to themselves, and be aware of their surroundings in order to spot suspicious activity. Don't be locked into your cell phone. Be alert at all times. Working together to train our children about these situations will make us all much safer. If other similar situations occur we will keep our school families informed.

Success is always within reach!
2016-17 is upon us and going to be one of the best years yet!
This is going to be a phenomenal year. Welcome back seventh and eighth graders and Welcome aboard sixth graders and their families. I would like to extend a warm welcome to all our new GLMS families. Let's go Warriors!
We once again have a great year planned. We have an energetic, innovative, creative and dedicated staff to work with all our students.
This year we will be providing Algebra I and Spanish I to our 8th graders. These courses provide High School credit to our students. We have two STEM classes which will encourage our students to continue to expand their learning. In Jan. we will be rolling out our 1:1 iniative. We will be providing every student with a Chromebook, our teachers have undergone Professional Development to help them extend their knowledge of teaching with a more technological edge and to provide continually engaging, innovative and in depth teaching to all our students.
We are excited to embark on our third year as a Leader in Me School. We believe that all of our students have the capability to lead in their own lives and thus influence those around them to make positive and proactive choices. Below are the Seven Habits of Highly Effective people that we model and expect in our school:
Be Proactive –Being able to control your own actions; making decisions based on what is good for you and not just what you want.
Begin with the End in Mind- Clearly defining my goals and purpose in life will ensure success.
Put First Things First– Being accountable and responsible for who you are and what you do. Follow through with your obligations as a GLMS student.
Think Win-Win – Respecting one another; treating everyone including yourself with dignity; showing the same regard or consideration for others as you want others to show you.
Seek First to Understand- Making decisions and choices in an open-minded and respectful manner.
Synergize- Realizing that if you are a successful student on the GLMS team, you will need to work cooperatively with everyone.
Sharpen the Saw –Taking time for you everyday to keep your mind, body and heart healthy.
It is going to be a fun and exciting journey together. I hope you find some time to come in for a visit, call for a chat, or email any suggestions, questions, or concerns you may have. I look forward to working with you!
